An island paradise famous for its wild rabbits
Ōkunoshima, nestled off the coast of Takehara City in Hiroshima Prefecture, is commonly known as Rabbit Island. Around 700 wild rabbits call the island home, making it a rabbit lover's dream destination.
Rabbits greet you the moment you step off the ferry. Bring cabbage or pellets, and countless rabbits will flock to you.
The island features cycling routes and observation decks where you can enjoy stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea beyond the rabbits. You can also stay at the nearby National Vacation Village, making it perfect for a relaxing overnight getaway.
It's about a 15-minute ferry ride from Tadanoumi Port, with excellent access from central Hiroshima. This healing island is an absolute must-visit for animal lovers.

Rent a bike and cycle the Shimanami Kaido
The "Shimanami Kaido" connects Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture with Imabari City in Ehime Prefecture. This approximately 70km cycling route is a breathtaking path that cyclists from around the world dream of riding.
Even beginners can easily take on the challenge with a rental bike. You don't have to complete the entire route—you can always take a ferry back from one of the islands along the way, so you can plan your trip according to your fitness level.

A scenic viewpoint overlooking the Onomichi Strait
Senkonji Park, the symbol of Onomichi. Take the ropeway to the mountaintop and you'll be greeted by a sweeping panorama of the Onomichi Strait and surrounding islands.
Famous as a cherry blossom destination, the park draws crowds of flower viewers in spring. I'd also personally recommend visiting during autumn's colorful foliage season. It's the perfect starting point for exploring Onomichi.
