Kinosaki Onsen is a hot spring destination in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, with a history spanning 1,300 years. Takeda Castle Ruins is a mountain castle site located in Asago City. Floating above the sea of clouds from autumn through winter, it's called 'Japan's Machu Picchu.' Perched at 353 meters above sea level, this entirely stone-walled castle ruin is remarkably well-preserved and stunning in scale.
For the best sea of clouds views, head to Riunkyō. When conditions align perfectly, you can witness the magical sight of the castle ruins floating above the clouds. Your best chances are early mornings between September and November on days with large temperature swings from the previous day and calm winds.
