Yamagata
Yamagata Prefecture in the Tohoku region is divided into the coastal Shonai area facing the Japan Sea and the inland region. Yonezawa City is known as a historic castle town associated with the Uesugi clan, while Sakata and Tsuruoka cities feature rich nature of the Shonai Plain and historic port town culture. Tendo City is nationally famous for producing shogi pieces.
