The head temple of Tendai Buddhism. A UNESCO World Heritage site with 1,200 years of history

Enryaku-ji on Mount Hiei is the head temple of Tendai Buddhism founded by Saichō and is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The vast temple grounds, which encompass the entire mountain, are divided into three pagodas: the Eastern Pagoda, Western Pagoda, and Yokawa.

Konpon Chūdō is the principal hall of Enryaku-ji, where the "Eternal Lamp" has burned continuously for 1,200 years without ever being extinguished.
