秋田県大仙市といえば、日本最高峰の煙火師たちが技術を競い合う伝統の全国花火競技大会「大曲の花火」が全国的に有名です。それ以外にも文献にない謎の遺跡として知られる「払田柵跡」、山形県酒田市の本間家、宮城県石巻市の齋藤家と並び東北三大寺主である池田家によって造られた「旧池田氏庭園」など興味深いスポットが多くあります。またすりつぶした納豆に地元産の山菜やキノコなどを入れた納豆汁や、大仙市を代表する銘菓の三杯餅も有名です。
