Kitami City, the central hub of Hokkaido's Okhotsk region, is renowned for producing Japan's highest volume of onions. Known as the holy land of curling, the city has produced Olympic athletes who compete on the world stage. The area also preserves the history of Kitami mint, which once held 70% of the global market share, and features the Tokoro Site with its ancient pit dwelling remains from the Jomon period.
