Otsu City, the capital of Shiga Prefecture, is a historic city located at the southern tip of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake. The city is home to numerous famous sites including Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Ishiyama-dera Temple associated with Murasaki Shikibu, and Omi Jingu Shrine known as the sacred place of karuta.
